Volunteering

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer and make new friends at the Senior Center. Volunteers help in vital positions: the Thrift Shop, the kitchen, Front Desk Reception, The Board of Directors, class facilitators, van drivers, the Public Relations Committee, Holiday Bazaar Leaders, Power of One and so many more.

Volunteers support the Senior Center!

New! Volunteer Opportunities

SERIOUS SITUATION: VAN DRIVERS NEEDED!
Can you or someone you know help?
Senior Services provides the training necessary. All you need is a regular driver’s license. Time commitment: a half-day or full day, once a week, morning, afternoon, it’s pretty much up to you and your schedule.

Call Jon Ann or Judy at 206-365-1536 or Senior Services Transportation: 206-727-6262, to volunteer and get more information.

More Opportunities! Call the center at 206-365-1536 for more information
  • In the kitchen to help with lunch service
  • With Kitchen Corner Catering on an “as needed” basis
  • In the Thrift Shop
  • Tax Preparers, to be trained by AARP. Contact Mike Speyer, 206-365-1536
VOLUNTEER TO DISTRIBUTE
our Senior Center Activities Guide. We need help in getting the Activities Guides to businesses and community areas throughout Shoreline and Lake Forest Park. Could be a nice job for two people to share!

Thrift Shop

The Senior Center's Thrift Shop is vital.  It is run entirely by Volunteers. The Shop Manager, Judith Enich, is seeking more help, especially Wednesdays and Fridays. Retail experience is not a requirement and training is provided by Judith and other volunteers. Potential volunteers may chose hours and days of service. Contact Judith on Fridays at the Senior Center: 206-365-1536, or come in and meet her.

Front Desk Receptionists

The Front Desk Receptionists are at the heart of the Senior Center. Potential volunteers work four hour shifts, morning or afternoon, one day a week and may need to help with subbing when necessary.  Contact Marilyn at 206-365-1536 or come in to the center for more information. Training is provided.

Van Drivers Always Needed!

Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels Program for the cities of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park is based at the Senior Center. Volunteers deliver approximately 300 meals per week  to anyone who is homebound due to illness, disability, or who has difficulty shopping or cooking. Participants can also purchase nutrional supplements such as Ensure at a discounted price. To find out how to volunteer please contact Heather Hovey at the Senior Center on Tuesdays or Thursdays: 206-365-1536. Orders are placed on Tuesdays, packed and delivered on Thursdays.

Community Volunteers

Power of One:
The Power of One Senior Volunteers is a program of the Shoreline-LFP Senior Center and the Shoreline School District and supported by the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation. Volunteers 55 and older give their time helping children in Shoreline Public Schools.

The purpose of the Power of One Volunteer Program is to assist the Shoreline Schools to achieve excellent education for all students.  We believe as caring adults we can assist all students to become successful learners. Opportunities include helping in classrooms, working in libraries and with after-school programs.

Several schools are asking for consistent, dedicated help in these areas:

  • Mentors.  Are you mentor material?  Share just an hour of your time with a student in need of one-on-one support, friendship and encouragement
  • Literacy.  Learning to read starts with being read to.  Support literacy by helping children in preschool and elementary school build their reading skills
  • Homework Helpers.  It's a working lunch!  Help 4-6th graders and middle school students understand assignments and give much-needed encouragement at drop in homework help centers
  • Tutors.  Math and reading help.  You're the addition teachers and students need for success with math facts and reading groups

Training and support to learn how to work with students, understand the educational system and ways to help students be successful in school are provided.

Karen Kessinger is the new Power of One Volunteer Coordinator.  She will help you find the right school and grade to challenge you and keep you engaged.

For more information about what you can do, contact Karen at 206-365-1169 or karen.kessinger@shorelineschools.org
