Exercise

Please make payments for classes at the Front Desk. All classes, activities and events arranged at this Senior Center are for the convenience and pleasure of the participants who desire to attend. The Senior Center does not assume any responsibility for the well being or safety of the participants or their property in any matters pertaining to said activities and events. Members and their guests participate at their own risk and should not expect or hold the Senior Center responsible in any way. The Senior Center offers a variety of classes, but does not endorse any speakers.

NEW: BALANCE EXERCISE: Keeping Strong, Keeping Well Wed. & Fri. Exercise Room, 11:15AM to 12:15PM. This class is designed for those who have completed the Matter of Balance class. Instructor Toshiko
Aramaki, will be teaching exercises with a concentration on building and maintaining balance. Fee: $3.00 per class for members; $3.50 for non-members. You may purchase a Balance Exercise ticket for up to 15 sessions, good for 90 days.

GENTLE YOGA:  Wednesday,  10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., Exercise Room. Practice a safe yoga, by learning basic positions using chair and floor work. Many poses practiced while seated, others using the chair for balance and some poses on the floor. Please bring a yoga mat or bath-sized towel and wear loose clothing to class. Instructor: Carolynne Kast. Fees: $3.50 for members, $4.50 for nonmembers. Purchase a Gentle Yoga ticket for up to 15 sessions, good for 90 days.

BASIC CHAIR YOGA: Fridays, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Exercise Room This class is designed for the beginning yoga student, no mat needed. We will use the chair for seated postures and balance work, hold onto the wall for some standing poses and use props where needed. Students should bring a towel or small blanket with them for extra back support. Stocking or bare feet preferred. Instructor: Carolynne Kast. Fees: $5.00 for members, $7.00 for nonmembers. Purchase a Gentle Yoga ticket for up to 15 sessions, good for 90 days.

NEW SOFT EXERCISE 1: Wed. & Fri., 9:45AM - 10:30AM Bridge Room. This is a non-impact stretching and toning class. All exercises are done while sitting on a chair as you work with light weights and bands. Instructor: Nella Raymond,  Fee: $2.00 per class for center members, $2.50 for nonmembers. Pay at the Front Desk.  You may purchase a Soft Exercise ticket for up to 15 sessions, good for 90 days.

SOFT EXERCISE 2: Wed & Fri, 10:45AM to 11:30AM New session for the Mill creek and Ashford Family Homes residents. This is a nonimpact stretching and toning class. All exercises are done while sitting on a chair as you work with light weights and bands. Instructor: Nella Raymond, Fee: $2.00 per class for center members, $2.50 for nonmembers. Pay at the Front Desk. You may purchase a Soft Exercise ticket for up to 15 sessions, good for 90 days.

ENHANCE FITNESS: Mon., Wed. & Fri.,  8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.  Dining Room. Dining Room. Instructors: Toshiko Aramaki and Lisa Haynes. For people wishing to improve physical conditioning and decrease risk of injuries. charge for Eligible Group Health Members (those who have Medicare Parts A & B and are “locked in”), $3.00 per class for Center members, $3.50 nonmembers of the Center. Pay at the Front Desk. Purchase an EnhanceFitness ticket for up to 15 sessions, good for 90 days.  No Session 2 class on Friday, Nov. 4.

BEGINNING ENHANCE FITNESS:  Tues. & Th., 1:15 p.m.-2:15 p.m., Spartan Recreation Center. Instructor: Sherry Herdrick. Fee: No charge for Eligible Group Health Members (those who have Medicare Parts A & B and are "locked in"), $2.50 per class for Center members, $3.00 nonmembers of the Center. Pay at the Front Desk. Purchase an EnhanceFitness ticket for up to 15 sessions, good for 90 days.

TAI CHI /Qi Gong: Tuesdays, 10:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. and Fridays, 10:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m., Spartan Recreation Center. Instructor: Mary Stokes. Helps breathing, balance, stress relief. Fees: $3.50 per single class  for Center members, $4.50 for nonmembers.

Dancing

BELLY DANCERCISE:Mondays, 11:00AM to noon. Bridge Room. Instructor: Kashmira Almazan.
Exercise to the art of Belly Dance learning the grace and fluid movements to help tone, strengthen muscles and improve flexibility and balance; gentle on the body. Wear comfortable dance or exercise clothing. Fee: $5.00 for members, $7.00 for nonmembers. Purchase a Belly Dancercise ticket for up to 15 sessions, good for 90 days.

LINE DANCE:  BEGINNERS & INTERMEDIATE Tuesdays, 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m., Dining Room. Instructor: Joe Mraz. The first 45 minutes for beginners, the last 45,  intermediate. All are welcome to stay the whole time. The fee is a set fee for the whole time or part of the time.  Cost: $5:00 per class for members, $7:00 for nonmembers. Purchase a Line Dance ticket for up to 15 sessions, good for 90 days.

HULA: Thursdays, 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m., in the Dining Room. The class is open to all skill levels. Work will be on reviewing dances learned in previous class session plus new dances. Practice: Mondays, 1:30. Instructor: Kathy De Aguiar. Fee: $1.00, non-members, $2.00.

Evening Classes

HAWAIIAN HULA: Mondays, 6:00-7:00PM.
People of all ages will benefit from this class that will broaden cultural hori-zons, help with grace, coordination flexibil-ity and stamina. Fee: $8.00 for center members; $10 for non-members. Instructor: Kathy DeAguair Classes begin on January 10, 2011.
